my friend a.a. rucci introduced me to this colorful, electro-pop musician a few months ago. i'm really glad he did. juile budet, the sassy twenty-five year old french artist who goes by the name yelle (a feminized version of the acronym y.e.l., you enjoy life) first gained attention on myspace last year. since then, she was seen on the bbc three show lily allen and friends and was mtv's artist of the week during the week of march 24, 2008's. her upcoming tour should help to further strengthen her rapidly growing fan base. if you're a gamer, a reality tv fan, or fan of vinnie chase, you may recognize her infectious music from need from speed: pro street, the hills or entourage, respectively. at the moment, there isn't a lot on-line. until more stuff is available, click here to view her videos. also, click here to watch that lilly allen and friends appearance mentioned above. don't forget, the album cover image always links to sample songs and the band's image to their website. yelle has a bunch of north american dates scheduled october. click here to find out if she is playing near you. as always, please buy this album from your local independent music store and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless, globally-homogenizing, community-killers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand). incidentally, these two companies sell more music than any other retailer in the united states. that my friend, bites. yelle rocks. if you agree, please spread the word (about the band and this site). don't worry if you missed the offend maggie review from last week: here it is. |
