since his earliest incarnation as a hardcore punk musician in the late 1980's, ted leo has created some undeniably passionate and rousing sounds. during his early period of exploration, he founded a number of bands ultimately gaining some national exposure with the band chisel. unfortunately (fortunately for ted leo and the pharmacists fans) they went their separate way in 1997. in 1999, ted leo and the pharmacists was formed in washington, d.c. i would describe their music as indie with a punk edge. exactly one year ago today, they released their fifth album entitled living with the living. because of his fiery passion, working class attitude, confident political lyrics, and call to power, ted leo's music reminds me of a combination of billy bragg's folk and the clash's punk. if you like what you hear, click here to download a show from washington, d.c.'s 9:30 club on 29 march 2007. once there, click "download the concert" on the left hand side of the screen. as always, please buy this album from your local independent music store and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless, globally-homogenizing, community-killers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand). incidentally, these two companies sell more music than any other retailer in the united states. that my friend, stinks. ted leo and the pharmacists rock. if you agree, please spread the word (about the band and this site). don't worry if you missed the sky blue sky review from last week: here it is. |
