together, zooey deschanel (the great indie actor) and m. ward (the great indie-folk musician) form the delicately wistful, she & him.  the duo first met on the set of the 2007 film, the go-getter. she, starred in the film; he, worked on the soundtrack.  the two were asked to sing a duet for the film's end credits.  they did and were well received.

while on set, zooey opened up and told m. ward she recorded dozens of home demos over the years.  after much encouragement, he was allowed to listen to them.  soon after, they began to correspond via email.  finally, in mid-2007 they formally recorded her demo's.  the result was volume one, a delicately soothing collection of songs reminiscent of great country albums of the 1920's to 1950's.

after the session, she filmed a movie, he toured.  finally, nearly a year later, on march 18, 2008 the album dropped.  she still has lots of unrecorded demo's, so look forward to volume two at some point soon.

as always, please buy this album from your local independent music store and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless, globally-homogenizing, community-killers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand).  incidentally, these two companies sell more music than any other retailer in the united states.  that my friend, bites.
