in dallas during the late 1990's, josh garza (drums), and vocalist/guitarist/songwriter regina chellew started the experimental and "collage-like" band captain audio.  soon after, brother's benjamin (guitar/vocals), and brandon curtis (bass/vocals) joined the band.  in 2000, josh, benjamin and brandon left dallas (and regina) for new york and formed secret machines.

the band describes their sound as "space rock": slow, long synthesized instrumental tracks complemented with experimental guitar and a science fiction-ish theme.  rolling stone magazine has written that "they take pink floyd psychedelia, led zeppelin stomp, and the who inspired choruses and charge them full of big-rock beats, atmospheric keyboards and all kinds of electronic whooshes."

the band released their third album, the self titled secret machines october 14, 2008.  this album marks the departure of founding member benjamin curtis who left the group in march 2007 to work full time on his other project, school of seven bells.

as always, please buy this album from your local independent music store by people who know and love music and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless, globally-homogenizing, community-killers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand).  incidentally, these two companies sell more music than any other retailer in the united states.  that my friend, bites.

secret machines rock.

if you agree, please spread the word (about the band and this site).
