welcome to the first installment of the wednesday album of the week. the reviews are written very informally. the album cover image always links to sample songs and the band's image to their website. check back every wednesday for an update. so here goes... challengers by the new pornographers isn't brand new (this album was released about four months ago), but i can't get enough it, as a result, the entire album is on a constant loop in my head. usually getting a song stuck in my head is a bad thing. this time, it doesn't bother me. i really wish i could list my favorite track, but i love all of them. it's one of the most composed albums i have ever heard. (their 2005 album twin cinema is also great, but slightly more rocking.) if you only buy one album in the next year, this should be the one. when you buy it, please go to your local independent music store and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless worldwide homogenizers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand). also check out the "support" links on the bottom of the page, they will be regularly updated. the new pornographers rock. if you agree, tell everyone you know (about the band and this site). |
