hi. i don't know about you, but i've always wondered what the world would be like if bruce springeteen, bob dylan, a touch of morrissey and an orchestra were fused into one mega-music group, brooklyn's (via cincinnati) the national would probably be the answer. their album boxer was released back in may and made it onto a number of 2007 top 10 lists including paste magazine's album of the year. in my opinion, it really deserves to be there. everyone that i have played this album for has really loved it, click on the album cover image on the top right to sample a few of their songs and you will immediately understand why. these five guys just make incredibly lyrical, layered music together. boxer is the kind of album that years after the first listen, it will emotionally transport you back in time. as always, please buy this album at your local independent music store and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless global homogenizers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand). also check out the "support" links on the bottom of the page as they are regularly updated. the national rocks.if you agree, please spread the word (about the band and this site). don't worry if you missed the challengers review from last week: here it is. |
