michael “comers” coomer (vocals/guitars/drums) and curtis o'mara (also, vocals/guitars/drums), are from tucson; jose boyer (bass) hails from north carolina.  the trio is actually called harlem; they are now based in austin.

the band formed in 2007 in nashville, where they released their first lp, free drugs ;-) (not sure why they included the emoticon to the end if the title).  soon after, the band was “blacklisted in nashville for getting into fights with all the kids who played music there” (not sure if that’s true, but its what i’ve read).

according to our friends at ohmyrockness.com, “harlem is a band you want to get sweaty to.  a band you want to ride the mechanical bull to.  a band you want to watch and then breezily look over at your stranger concert neighbor and go, ‘rock 'n roll, mannnnn... rock...and...roll.’”

the band released their second lp, hippies, april 06, 2010.

“harlem have a reputation of making club gigs seem like living room shows (and living room shows feel like club shows), said matador records reps.  “hippies harnesses this energy in its 16 blasts of pure pop energy with a new dimension of songwriting that is as tightly masterful as it is true to a joyfully frantic primitivism.”
