saving the world from bad music since last wednesday.

WEDNESDAY  ARCHIVE  |  PEP SQUAD  MAILING LIST  GEAR  REQUEST LINE  ROCK DOC  CONNECT

back in the early 1990's,  san francisco residents robert fisk (guitars), greg saunier (drummer and keyboards) and two others whose names are lost to time, formed the band, nitre pit.  the quartet soon split; gigs were still scheduled, so the remaining duo fulfilled their contractual obligations under the current name deerhoof.  luckily for the two, slim moon of the indie label kill rock stars was in the audience during their performance at the 1995 yo yo a go go festival.   the rest is history as deerhoof have been on the same label since.

in may 1996, they met film student satomi matsuzaki as she literally arrived in america.  they quickly realized that she had the childlike, calming vocal style the band lacked.  in 1999, rob left the band and was replaced by self-taught guitarist john dieterich.  over the years, the lineup has rotated slightly.  the newest member, ed rodriguez joined the band february 2008 and plays guitar.

october 7, 2008 marked the release of the noise pop band's ninth studio album, offend maggie.  this album follows deerhoof's tradition of recording significantly volatile and rambunctious music.

click here to listen to a july 18, 2008 deerhoof gig recorded by wnyc at brooklyn's project park bandshell.  click here for video to a bunch of songs from the same set.  click here to stream a bunch of deerhoof songs over the world wide inter-web.  don't forget, the album cover image always links to sample songs and the band's image to their website.

deerhoof has a bunch of  dates (chicago, new york, philadelphia, tampa, etc.) scheduled.  click here to find out if she is playing near you.

as always, please buy this album from your local independent music store and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless, globally-homogenizing, community-killers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand).  incidentally, these two companies sell more music than any other retailer in the united states.  that my friend, bites.

deerhoof rocks.

if you agree, please spread the word (about the band and this site).
