a few years ago, baltimore's dan deacon graduated from the conservatory of music at purchase college in new york with a graduate degree in electro acoustic and computer music composition.  while still in college in 2003, he released his first two albums in small runs on cd-r: meetle mice and silly hat vs egale hat.  (yes, it's spelled "egale", not "eagle".)  neither albums have vocal tracks and are composed primarily of sound collages.

in 2007, dan released his first commercially successful l.p. titled spiderman of the rings.  the album ranked #24 on pitchfork's "top 50 albums of 2007".

dan has built a reputation for his live shows; "comically unpredictable messes of frenetic dancing, audience participation and theatrics, all powered by deacon's wildly addictive, electro freak-pop."  he typically leaves the stage during his shows and has performed at the whitney museum of american art, the getty center and the hirshorn museum and sculpture garden.  in fact, when he began playing live, fans weren't sure whether he was creating serious music or making a joke.

dan's latest album, bromst, released on march 24, 2009 was described as "fusing the growing intensity of his live performances with his background in electro-acoustic composition," resulting "in a collection of pieces that are intense and epic, and at the same time, down to earth and welcoming."

check back here to see if dan deacon has any gigs scheduled near you.

as always, please buy this album from your local independent music store by people who know and love music and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless, globally-homogenizing, community-killers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand).  incidentally, these two companies sell more music than any other retailer in the united states.  that my friend, bites.

dan deacon rocks.

if you agree, please spread the word (about the band and this site).
