releasing their first and second albums on the legendary label sub pop records (home to nirvana, iron and wine, etc), the album cease to begin dropped in october of 2007. band of horses describe their music as "woodsy, dreamy songs (that) ooze with amorphous tension, longing and hope." the band, originally from seattle (headquarters of west coast indie rock and sub pop), relocated to south carolina to be closer to their family. the charleston area is quite lucky to have them. for me at least, it's appropriate that band of horses is originally from seattle, because when i saw them recently at a local outdoor venue, it rained the entire show. however, the band was so passionate, i pretty much forgot about the rain. click here for a couple of live songs and short interview recorded for seattle radio station kexp and cmj music festival. anyway, if you like band of horses, you should check out the shins, my morning jacket, modest mouse and/or built to spill. as always, please buy this album from your local independent music store and not from retailers like wal-mart (soulless, globally-homogenizing, community-killers) or i-tunes (albums should be listened to as an entire composition with album cover and liner notes in hand). incidentally, these two companies sell more music than any other retailer in the united states. that my friend, bites. band of horses rocks. if you agree, please spread the word (about the band and this site). don't worry if you missed the under the black light review from last week: here it is. |
