anyway, architecture in helsinki reside in melbourne, australia and are one of relatively few current australian bands that have been able to find a following on another continent.  in fact, they have toured in the u.s. with death cab for cutie and clap your hands say yeah and opened for david byrne, the polyphonic spree, yo la tengo and belle & sebastian.

the band is made up of five idiosyncratic and quirky members playing such diverse instruments as analog synthesizer, glockenspiel, tuba, clarinet, and recorder.  they describe their style as "kind of party-time freak rock with touches of soul and hip-hop," but they "have a strong hope that the next record will come out sounding like some kind of black metal and doo-wop crossover…"

architecture in helsinki released their third l.p., places like this, july 28, 2007.  if you haven't heard the album already,  you will really dig  its pop infused calypso rhythm.
